For folks who really love rich, blockbuster reds, Lodi is THE place to go (there’s a reason it was named Wine Enthusiast’s 2015 Region of the Year). And we’re bringing you a rare, new taste.
Our California expert Clare Tooley got a tip that one of Lodi’s best and biggest-name producers was looking to make room in their cellars. One taste of this 'howling' good red, and she knew it would be something our thirsty Big Reds fans would love.
Ocean Howler is an unusual blend of Zinfandel (60%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), which Clare calls “a delicious marriage of California’s heritage, old-vine grape and the state’s modern-day success story.” The equally interesting name was inspired by the cooling gusts of wind, or ‘howlers,’ that blow in off the Pacific, key to hot California’s ability to grow such beautifully ripe, yet fresh-and-zippy grapes. As for what else to expect in the glass, we’ll let Clare take it away:
“This is a gorgeous fruit bomb, exploding in the mouth with loads of bright red cherry, currant, and raspberry from the Zin, finishing on the back palate with pure Cabernet melted-chocolate-richness!”
Like steak? How about burgers or ribs? Beef stew, perhaps? All are great matches for this lusciously rich red. Order your share before your chance to taste it blows away …
