When Raymond Vineyards was crowned the 2012 American Winery of the Year by Wine Enthusiast, we weren’t shocked.
They are, after all, one of Napa’s most historic estates. And with visionary owner Jean-Charles Boisset at the helm, you can expect even greater things in the years to come …
For this rich exclusive, Jean-Charles sent his star winemaker, Stephanie Putnam (formerly of Far Niente and Hess), to find the best Napa-grown Merlot grapes she could. She certainly had her pick in 2012, “one of the best vintages California has seen for decades” (JancisRobinson.com).
With the fruit back at the estate, Stephanie treated it to time in oak – the result is a deep, black-fruited Merlot with lovely, velvety structure and a long, dark finish. A lovely partner for pork tenderloin or duck.
