Chianti is Tuscany’s best-known red – and savvy wine fans know the finest hail from Chianti Classico, the original (and hillier!) zone where conditions for crafting prime Sangiovese are perfect. Especially in the superb 2015 vintage.
Your perfect taste arrives from the historic estate of Castello di Meleto. This medieval castle dates to 1256 and is just two miles down the road from the famous, 10th-century church, Pieve di Spaltenna (depicted on the label), which happens to be surrounded by some very special Sangiovese vines.
Winemaking duo Matteo Menicacci and Emiliano Falsini (who are no strangers to international acclaim) headed there to make this special release, hand-harvesting and selecting only the best grapes and carefully aging the wine for a year in top-shelf oak barrels. Their dedication to quality really shows in the glass – look forward to classic notes of sour red cherry, with hints of violet and vanilla. The palate is velvety and enveloping with even more vibrant red fruit flavor, smooth spice, rounded tannins and a long, smooth finish.
And (as most well-made Chianti is), it’s incredibly food-friendly and will make an impressive centerpiece for your next Italian feast – sausage and peppers, spaghetti with meatballs, calzones and beyond.
Limited cases imported (Matteo and Emiliano would only part with just so many!). Order yours today.
