Etna Rosso DOC
Nerello Cappuccio

Vines have been cultivated in the foothills of Sicily’s Mount Etna since the time when Pompeii was a thriving metropolis. Today, Etna’s red wines are all the rage amongst Italian wine fans and critics. “I love these wines…the lightness of their textures, the purity of the red fruit and mineral flavors, their refreshing nature, their elegance and their subtlety,” raves Eric Asimov of The New York Times.

Most fans, however, won’t get to try an insiders-only wine like this. Here’s renowned writer Alder Yarrow, on the 100-year-old, award-winning Nicosia estate:

“Nicosia makes dependable, high quality wines that showcase the beauty of what the mountain can deliver. Unfortunately for the rest of the world, not many of their wines make their way outside of Italy.”

We are thrilled to offer you this classic from talented winemaker Maria Carella. Crafted from local grapes Nerello Mascalese (80%) and Nerello Cappuccio (20%) and given a gentle slumber in fine oak, it offers an elegant texture and pleasing complexity that shows why Etna’s wines often draw comparisons to red Burgundy or Barolo. As you’ll taste, the region’s high altitude and volcanic soils provide an ideal foundation for fruit-packed wines with a uniquely minerally, spicy edge.

With its layers of bright berry and cherry fruit, firm tannins and fresh character, this is made for pairing with nearly every course of an Italian dinner. It’ll harmonize with classic Sicilian fare like pasta alla norma (spaghetti with fried eggplant, tomato, ricotta and basil), falsomargo (stuffed veal), or a big plate of cured meats and cheeses.
