Famous for his personality-packed reds, Andrew ‘Big Mac’ McPherson is a favorite of top critic James Halliday (Australia’s answer to Robert Parker), who rates his estate an impressive four stars. And for years, his Full Fifteen red has delighted customers with its powerful waves of black-fruited silkness. But for this special release, he’s taken things up a notch or two.
“Doreen’s Blend” is an homage to Andrew’s late mother, Doreen (who lived to be 103!), and he did everything to ensure impeccable quality in her honor. The grapes are from Victoria, one of Australia’s top quality enclaves, and were hand-picked from very old Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon vines. Back in the winery, Andrew barrel aged the ‘juice’ in fine French oak for nine months, adding extra depth and spicy complexity.
Rich and ripe, perfectly balanced and boasting velvety tannins, this is what real Australian wine is all about. It’s drinking well now (and, like its namesake, will age beautifully for years to come). Strictly limited cases available – be sure to grab your share ASAP.
