Pascale Peyronie, owner of historic (and under-the-radar) Château Tour du Roch-Milon has been offered millions for her precious vineyards. She always refuses to sell, and with good reason …
Her vines perch on the same gravelly ridge as prestigious First Growth Château Mouton Rothschild. In fact, they even share vineyards, and Pascale’s caught Mouton harvesters accidentally taking grapes from her vines – today the stakes are color-coded to avoid confusion!
Our man on the ground, Jean-Marc Sauboua, persuaded Pascale to part ways with a small lot of her silky 2015. An 80/20 blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it has 12 months in French oak, plus a dose of “juice” from her top-shelf Pauillac release (which starts at $60). And did we mention this 2015 also sports a coveted gold medal from leading wine guide, Gilbert & Gaillard? Look forward to layers of classic cassis and plum, plus notes of cedar and cinnamon-clove.
Considering your pricey alternatives, and the caliber of Pascale’s grapes, this is pure class had for a remarkable price. Just remember – Jean-Marc was only able to secure 420 cases, so you’ll want to be quick.
