Chianti Classico is the premium version of Chianti, Italy’s best-known red. At the beautiful Castello di Bossi estate, “all the elements are in place to make some of the best,” (Parker): Top vineyards, state-of-the-art winery and father-and-son team Marco and Jacopo Bacci, who receive regular 90+ point scores for their reds.
Each year, a small amount of their wine must legally be “declassified” to Toscana IGT — to keep Chianti Classico quality (and prices) high. This excess wine is traditionally shared among friends and family — and a small portion, labeled La Grancia 2008, has been reserved exclusively for our customers (at a very friendly price).
Toscana on the label, Chianti Classico in the glass:
Deep ruby-red, with heady aromas of ripe plum, dried herbs and tobacco. Enjoy the Sangiovese grape’s trademark black cherry flavors, with delicate spice and the silkiest of finishes. Marco likes to serve this with pappardelle con cinghiale (pasta with wild boar), game stews and the estate’s homemade Pecorino cheese.
