In mining terms, stumbling upon a pocket of gold is, of course, a valuable discovery – it’s also the inspiration behind the name of this rich Cabernet Sauvignon from Lodi (Wine Enthusiast’s 2016 Region of the Year).
It’s a special Cab project from the Kautz family, a top winemaking name famed for their quality-driven approach. They gave a taste to our California expert, Clare, on one of her last trips to Lodi. She was so impressed, she convinced them to give her an exclusive deal on the whole lot. As the ink was drying on the agreement, they joked about it being a real “gold pocket” of a wine … and the name stuck.
Thanks to the warm and early harvested 2016 vintage, grapes ripened beautifully – but yields were down quite a bit. That means there’s not a lot to go around. But what we do have is something really special. Look forward to really ripe blackberry and cassis flavors, with hints of fresh herbs and licorice. A core of juicy intensity keeps you coming back for more. A fine partner for steaks, burgers and more.
If you’re ever in town, the Kautzes let guests pan for gold at their estate. Fun, but we think the real treasure is held inside this exclusive bottle. Grab your share today.
