Christian Moueix – who was at the helm of the Right Bank’s famed Château Pétrus for decades – is one of the biggest names in Bordeaux. He’s now also the man behind some really exciting, newly acquired estates, including Château Vieux Lartigue.
This 15-acre estate makes just 130 barrels a year. Christian’s had his eyes on the property for years, and no wonder – it’s planted on prime sandy-gravel soils and the grapes (and wines) always punch well above their weight.
So you can imagine our excitement when he told us about a small parcel of their Grand Cru Merlot-Cab Franc – up for grabs if we were quick. (And boy, were we ever.) Starting from meticulously tended, 35-year-old vines, it bursts with all the supple, red berry fruit that fine Saint-Emilion is famed for. The 2013 won rave reviews from international critics, but this 2014 is something else altogether.
A must-try for fans of Bordeaux. Limited cases – order today.
