Storied Saint-Emilion is “Bordeaux’s most exciting region,” writes top critic Robert Parker. It’s also where you’ll find some of the world’s finest, Merlot-dominant reds. Many of the top cuvées sell for hundreds (if not thousands) per bottle – but if you know where to look, there’s exceptional flavor-for-money to be found. Enter: Château Magnan La Gaffelière.
Founded in 1777, this small château lies next door to iconic Premier Grand Cru Classé Château la Gaffelière, and is a showcase for the fantastic value Saint-Emilion can offer. Thanks to the near-perfect 2015 vintage in the vineyard, and the careful supervision of winemaker Hubert de Bouard (of Château Angélus fame) in the cellar, the estate’s 2015 Grand Cru beautifully marries Merlot with Cabernets Franc and Sauvignon. And it’s already earned major acclaim from leading critics across the globe.
James Suckling rated Château Magnan La Gaffelière 90-91 points, while Wine Enthusiast praised it for having “plenty of personality.” Antonio Galloni calls it “a huge, deep wine” with “super-ripe black cherry, plum, mocha, chocolate, and espresso” and “a racy, flamboyant personality.”
Given the success of Saint-Emilion in 2015 – and the admiration lavished on this silky Grand Cru – you’ll need to move quickly to secure your share.
