Italy's renowned Zonin family are behind some of northern Italy's most expressive, tongue-tingling whites. Their visionary leader, Gianni Zonin, was awarded Wine Enthusiast's 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award (for being "one of the most influential personalities in the Italian wine world"). They make our best-selling Pinot Grigio and, as a 'thank you' for your loyalty, they've sent a small shipment of their rare Aquileia Bianco just for you.
This exciting new white hails from the premium Friuli DOC of Aquileia. The region takes its name from the colony the Romans founded in 181 B.C., and town of Aquileia still exists today near the Adriatic coast in northeastern Italy (not far from the border with Slovenia). Thanks the the long, sunny days and cooling sea breezes, grapes grown here are packed with crisp, ripe flavors … and Ca' Vescovo's vineyards occupy some of the best sites in the area.
The 'Aquileia Bianco' designation – which permits select international grapes to be blended with native varieties – really allowed winemaker Marco Rabino to showcase his talents. After tasting and re-tasting over several days, Marco finally came up with the perfect recipe.
His delicious white is based on local stars Pinot Bianco (which brings apricot and pear notes), Friulano (full of melon and almond flavors) and Traminer (with its oriental spice and lychee character). He then added a healthy dose of intensely aromatic Sauvignon Blanc and a splash of Chardonnay for hints of lemon and acacia. This fruit-filled white is supported by a crisp, mineral structure and has a long, elegant and aromatic finish – and showcases the very best that this special region has to offer.
Race for your taste of this Friulian beauty. Very few cases imported.
