A Guide to the Best Wines for the Holidays from Vinovations

Pairing wine with food can be tricky even when a meal is simple. On a holiday like Thanksgiving or Christmas when plates are packed with a mixture of mains and sides, the selection can feel downright difficult. Whether you are bringing a bottle as a gift or looking for the perfect pairings, then the team here at Vinovations has some great advice. All wines are currently in store, call (508) 507-WINE (9463) to secure your bottles.

For Holiday Dinner Cassandra believes, “Everyone’s table can be a little or very different, especially the sides. When it comes to pairing wine with your meal, there is not one perfect match – except for Champagne, because Champagne is ALWAYS the right answer! In my house, we usually serve a progression of wines throughout the meal which always starts with champagne or sparkling wine when the turkey comes out of the oven, followed by whites and/or rosés and then reds. But, I always choose wines that have a great backbone of acidity to cut through all the fatty goodness on the table, otherwise everything can end up feeling very heavy.”

Santavinea Prosecco DOC Extra Dry 2015, $26.99

This elegant yet affordable dry Prosecco originates from the careful selection of the best Glera grapes in Veneto. Delicate perfumes portray hints of wisteria and acacia flowers with a touch of honey. It is fresh, semi sweet and fruity with dainty spring flowers. It is begging for a place on the table!

Tenuta Roletto Erbaluce di Caluso Spumante 2010, $54.99

Erbaluce is a crisp Italian grape variety that has been documented in Piedmont since 1606. It is used in the production of dry and sparkling wines, most famously from Erbaluce di Caluso DOCG. Toast, hazelnut and pastry aromas lead the way. The elegant palate delivers yellow apple, citrus zest and a hint of brioche alongside small, persistent bubbles and fresh acidity.

Sada Verso Vermentino Spumante Brut 2017, $34.99

Made with the native grape Vermentino, this Spumante offers subdued aromas of tropical fruit, beeswax and a whiff of citrus. The simple, straightforward palate is ripe of pineapple, nectarine and a hint of bitter almond alongside bright acidity.

Borgo La Caccia Castigo Lugana Brut DOC 2017, $29.99

The perfect match between body and elegance, a sparkling Brut with a refined soul and an embracing purity. Castigo di Lugana (100%) converys the uniqueness of its character and bouquet through the elegant floral and almond scents. Jasmine and honeydew-melon aromas lead the nose while the fun lively palate offers green melon, white peach and candied citrus.

Cricova Blanc de Noir Sparkling - Traditional Method, $25.99

Pinot Noir crafted based on the Methode Champenoise with second-in bottle fermentation for a minimum of 24 months. Elegant with fine bubbles, light yellow straw color, intricate aromas, fruitiness and fine minerality of the taste. Very balanced and light on the palate. Excellent on its own and a great companion to cheeses and accoutrements, but also pairs well with more complex dishes.
