We (along with wine experts and critics everywhere) have been touting the glorious wines of Portugal for years now. It’s a major hot spot for wines that deliver big bang-for-your-buck in the flavor department – as you’ll taste with this special garrafeira (aka Reserve) release from the historic Van Zeller family, who’ve been making top-notch wine in Portugal’s stunning Douro Valley since the early 17th century.
It was crafted in the superb 2011 vintage (which is described as “an exceptional viticultural year” on jancisrobinson.com) with a traditional blend of hand harvested local grapes from the remote, sun-drenched Douro Superior.
It starts off in the glass with warm and earthy aromas of fresh-cut herbs, mineral and ripe blackberry. The palate is rich, ripe and rounded, delivering mouthfuls of intense black fruit flavor and spice.
Just the thing for a hearty feast; prompt orders recommended.
