Drive through northern California, and you’ll see family homes with charming back gardens planted with a diverse array of grape vines. These passion plots have helped introduce numerous varieties to the Golden State – such as Italian native Falanghina.
This gorgeous example hails from the pioneering McCormack family. Located in the premium Clarksburg region, their Lost Slough Vineyards are the perfect spot for growing Falanghina. The vines bask in brilliant sunshine and cooling breezes that produce beautifully ripe, fresh grapes – especially in a fantastic vintage like 2017.
After selecting the best parcels, the McCormack team took the grapes back to their winery, Barengo. Founded in 1935, it was one of the first and only family-owned wineries in the area. (Fun fact: the legendary Cesare Mondavi was once the president of Barengo.)
Given kid-glove care at every stage, Back Garden Falanghina overflows with fresh jasmine, lavender, and ripe, citrus-fruit aromas. With a crisp, vibrant palate, it’s a delicious match for seafood and salads – or the perfect aperitif to sip in your own back garden.
