Petite Sirah

It’s not just movies that take years to produce. After much negotiation, we’re very excited to premiere this new blockbuster from Francis Ford Coppola – the legendary director of “The Godfather” (among other great movies) who’s now almost as famous for his award-winning California wines.

Petite Sirah plays a small, but important, role in some of Coppola's most sought-after releases. But Clare, our woman on the ground in California, was so taken with it that she asked head winemaker Corey Beck if he would let this this inky-dark beauty have a solo career. And she couldn't have been happier when he made her "an offer she couldn't refuse" …

The 2013 vintage in California was truly special, and most top critics believe it will even eclipse universally praised 2012. For more on this rich 2013 exclusive, here's Corey:

"Petite Sirah is one of the most intense grapes in terms of color and tannin. To avoid extracting too much tannin from our fruit, we pressed the grapes very gently in order to achieve a more delicate style of wine that doesn't need to age. Our fruit is grown in a variety of warm appellations, including Lodi, Paso Robles and Dry Creek. The ideal weather conditions in 2013 resulted in fruit with intense aromatics, wonderful balance and rich complex flavors."

The first thing you'll notice in the glass is the deep, purple-black color. Blackberries, cherries, plums, tobacco leaves and a hint of licorice greet you on the nose. And on the palate, your taste buds will be treated to flavors sweet cassis and fresh raspberry plus hints of dark chocolate and baking spices. A Tavola! is Francis’ tribute to memorable meals around his grandmother’s table, and this charismatic red would be perfectly cast in your next family feast – especially if it stars alongside a rack of lamb, roasted game (like squab) or rib-eye steaks.

Be one of the first to taste this flavor-packed California red – and let us know what you (and your guests) think once you have.
