Bold. Juicy. Full of power. This mega-wattage Shiraz comes from one of Barossa Valley's top-shelf producers (whose other reds can sell for upwards of $100 a bottle). Our man on the ground negotiated an incredible deal on one of their small, premium parcels just for you – only if we'd agree to keep their identity hidden (it's great to have friends in the right places, isn't it?).
The wine is named in honor of Barossa's first settlers (the year they arrived, to be exact). Full-bodied and powerful, 1842 really does them proud by delivering gobs of ripe blackberry, black currant and classic mint flavor, with earthy/tobacco notes highlighting a long, spicy finish. An obvious choice for steaks and all manner of barbecue, it's also smooth enough to enjoy without food.
This is proof in a bottle that Australia's a world-class producer of small-batch, boutique wines – especially if you know where to look. Limited cases imported – order soon.
